Carey was a top model in fashion who measured at nearly 5'10" she was a favorite of American designers like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father, an accomplished scientist who received the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists' 1979 Scientist of Year award, is a highly respected scientist. Carey traveled all over in honor of her father's efforts. When she finished her studies at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she began modeling on the side. This caught the eye of an agent from Ford Model Agency New York. She briefly lived and studied in Paris before returning in New York. Her modeling and college career took off and she appeared on Vogue's, Glamour's, and a variety of other magazines' covers. She was a full-time student at New York University, obtaining her major in Literature while working on modeling assignments. While she was studying acting at Neighborhood Playhouse, New York, her interest in acting increased. Her acting debut was as a character with Robin Williams in the 1986 film "Club Paradise. In her spare time she likes to ski or windsurfing. She also enjoys climbing mountains as well as whitewater rafting.
